What should I do if a pipe bursts?

When a pipe burst in your home, you should always look to going to a skilled and professional plumbing company that can resolve the issue, but before, there are things that you can do to prevent the problem from getting worse. Firstly you should turn off the water at the main stopcock and turn on all of your cold taps to drain the system. As well as this, you should then turn off your central heating, immersion heaters and any other water heating system you may have. Once that is done, turn on the hot taps to drain the hot water in your system. It is also a good idea to turn off your electrics to prevent water from damaging the electrics in your home. PJ Bryer’s team of highly skilled plumbers are more than capable of fixing pipe bursts at all scales. If a pipe in your home or property has burst, call us on 01454 314 980, we will be with you to fix the problem as soon as we can.

What should I do if I have a frozen pipe?

Frozen pipes need quick attention from a professional plumber that can quickly get to the bottom and resolve the problem. Before a plumber can get to you, there are things that you can do at home to prevent the issue from getting any worse. Turning off the water supply at the main stopcock is the first step you should take. Then, turn on the top where the frozen pipe is nearest to so the water can flow out once it is defrosted. You can then thaw out the pipe using hot water or gently with a hairdryer. Following this, you should contact a registered plumber to ensure that everything is running normally. PJ Bryer has dealt with many frozen pipes through recent years and are highly knowledgeable on how they can be fixed. If you have a frozen pipe, call us on 01454 314 980.

I have a smell of gas in my home what should I do?

If you smell gas in your home or carbon monoxide is leaking, you should immediately call the National Grid on 0800 111 999 and stand outside your home. This is a free national emergency line, so you won’t be charged. Immediately after, they will dispatch an engineer who will make sure that the property is safe. They will usually disable the gas temporarily until the required repairs are carried out by a company like us. After the National Grid has visited your home, you should arrange for gas engineers to have the repairs carried out and to complete multiple safety tests. If you have recently had a gas leak, call us today so we can safely check your home and resolve the original problem.

What are the signs that there is a problem with my radiator?

The most obvious sign that there is a problem with your radiator is leaking. Old radiators are vulnerable to leaking as they can crack after multiple years of use. Cracks in radiators do not just cause leaking, but can also make them rapidly inefficient. You will know if you have a leak or crack by the puddles of water that it will leave on the floor. Another sign is the temperature of the radiator. When radiators are dysfunctional, they can overheat or not switch on at all, each can cause huge issues with the temperature in your home, especially during very hot or cold weather. If there is a problem with your central heating, then contact our central heating repairs team on 01454 314 980 or for more information, visit our central heating repairs page.

Do you offer boiler installation?

Installing boilers is one of our main day-to-day tasks at PJ Bryer. Our heating engineers at PJ Bryer have been working repairing, serving, and installing boilers for multiple years, at a variety of properties. Our team has the knowledge to install boilers of all types quickly and efficiently. We can install all types of boilers including combi and conventional, from all different brands. If you require more information on boiler installation and upgrades, visit our boiler upgrades and central installation pages.

What is power flushing?

Power flushing is a process where a chemical solution cleanses your central heating system and removes any elements inside pipes, such as rust or debris that may be causing it to work inefficiently. If left in your system, it can cause you serious problems for your home heating. Over time the water in your pipes, boiler, and radiators produces dirt and can cause your radiators to not give out as much heat or cause your boiler to break down completely. A power flush removes sludge in your system and prevents central heating inefficiency. Visit our power flushing page for more information on our power flushing services.
